My Journey

From over 15 years of experience now, I have found a beautiful balance of integrating strength training with Pilates to tune fitness to its optimal rhythm. There’s the added benefit of mind-body awareness and balance for good measure. Through this period, I have also had the professional satisfaction of assisting my clients on their individual journeys to attain the custom fitness goals they desire.

 

I am grateful for the opportunity to share this experience, and to help design your own path towards fitness, balance and true health. As I am fond of saying, there is something in this for everyone.

Strength  Training

My approach to strength training emphasizes muscle definition and toning as much as basic muscle building. It is based on a couple of key principles. The first is to maintain proper form, bringing focused awareness of the body’s intrinsic balance into our movements. The second is to develop core strength from a stable body core. Together, these promote safety and minimize risk of injury while progressing to your specific goals of strength capacity.

Pilates 

In a holistic fitness regimen, flexibility is as important as strength. The body has its own innate intelligence that we work with. The principles of stretching and muscle elongation from Pilates are key to this approach. Muscle lengthening from Pilates is not just excellent for flexibility but also complements strength training for superior results.  Pilates also places emphasis on a strong and balanced core.

Holistic Fitness 

Early on in my 20 plus year career, the primary focus was on muscle building and strength training, the prevailing mantras of the fitness paradigm. Then, in 2011, I sustained an injury from working out owing to improper form, requiring me to re-evaluate my approach completely. I wanted to find a way to both rehab myself and make myself stronger, without the risk of injury one is prone to from conventional strength training.

 

That introspection and search led me to Pilates, which has given me the tools for the mind-body awareness I need for injury prevention. Pilates is great for strengthening the stabilizing muscle groups, while at the same time also affording enhanced flexibility.  Its mind-body linkage also contributes holistically to cognitive fitness.
